Cobb Homeowners Will Face a Property Tax Increase
Cobb Assessors Refuse to Lower Property Values

In a recent press release, Cobb Tax Commissioner Gail Downing said homeowners will face a property tax bill increase during the next two years. The state Homeowners Tax Relief Grant that funded a $20,000 tax credit on homestead properties will not be available. (Technically $8,000 of assessed value, but Georgia homes are valued at 40% of market value for tax purposes) “It’s unfortunate in slow economic times to have to deliver this message, but homeowners need this information so they can budget accordingly,” Downing said.

Meanwhile, Cobb County tax assessors lowered the values on only 7% of Cobb County homes according to the Marietta Daily Journal. Local real estate professionals are shocked by how few home values are being lowered. Cobb County Chairman, Sam Olens, declined to make a comment on the board of Tax Assessors decision.
